The house is a sunny and relatively compact home to Singapore on a corner lot on the road in an established area bungalow. We strive to make the most of the site, pushing shape the ‘L’ main building behind. This then created an open courtyard that was private, but still with a sense of openness relatively dense constucted on the site, therefore still allowing good views and air flow. We use the pool as ponds and cooling elements for the building as well as visual focal points. Volumes have been maximized and space as much as possible by sharing the open staircase and double height living space with patio area. At the end of the day, the house was also designed around the owner, who had a fine collection of art works and sculptures, this inspired the creation of a large solid wall with niches that housed his works, and give the building an anchor in which to expand other areas.
